1993 - 1994

The recent history of Excelsior-Henderson begins in 1993. While in Sturgis that year, the Hanlons felt that something was missing. They realized the missing element was individuality - almost everyone at the rally had the same brand of American-made cruiser or a copy of that brand. There was no choice.

In December 1993, with personal funds and a small bank loan using their motorcycles as collateral, they incorporated the Hanlon Manufacturing Company - and the journey began in earnest. From December 1993 through March 1994, the Hanlons continued to raise funds.

During that time, the Hanlons had dusted off numerous American motorcycling history books searching for a name that resonated with vision. Of the more than 250 American motorcycle brands throughout history, one clearly stood above the rest: Excelsior-Henderson. The Schwinn Company, owner of the original Excelsior-Henderson Motor Manufacturing and Supply Company, had let the trademarks lapse; the Hanlons had found the name and the heritage they sought.
