Modifications:
This bike was
in tough shape when I picked her up. There were parts broken and
pieces missing so I took the bike down to the frame and motor for
a partial restoration. The transmission was sent to G & K to be
rebuilt and have the spiral clips installed. While they were
rebuilding the transmission I had them install a new shift kit to
eliminate the false neutrals. Since the alignment pins were
missing from the primary cover the rotor was rubbing against the
stator so I ordered a new alternator assembly from Atlantic EH and
replaced the missing alignment pins at the same time. I installed
the oil pick up tube and aluminum scavenger pump bushing that G &
K sent back to me with the rebuilt transmission. Sent the intake
manifold to X-man to have it modified to increase the airflow to
the rear jug. Took the front fender off and sent it to the paint
shop to be repainted as it had a pretty substantial scratch in it
when I bought it. Took the front end apart so I could disassemble
the front strut and replace the missing lower strut cover. While
I had the front end apart I disassembled the driving lamps and
re-wired them. The insulation on the wires was worn off causing
the lights to ground and blow the fuse. Took both wheels off to
get new rubber put on them as the front tire was cupping and the
rear one was worn pretty thin. With both wheels off I replaced
the front and rear factory brake pads with X-man’s brake pads.
Installed the H5 cams and replaced all four motor mounts as one of
the front mounts was broken when I got it. Put new motor mount
chrome caps on as one of them were missing when I got the bike.
Reinforced the ignition switch-mounting bracket by welding an
extension on the existing bracket mounting tab that comes off the
frame of the bike. Made the battery box modification and added
the monster ground strap. Installed the modified intake manifold
and X-man’s air filter conversion kit. Re-routed the engine
breather using X-man’s engine breather kit. Installed the NFP fan
assisted oil cooler kit and a headlight modulator kit. Re-gripped
the handlebars with new factory grips, as the grips that were on
it didn’t have much life left in them. The kickstand was bent
when I bought the bike so I put on the reinforced X-man kickstand.
Comments:
This was a project and a half but it sure does ride smooth,
perform great, and look incredible sitting next to the
Redwood (#2034).
