New Owner Tech and Operation Advice

Congratulations and welcome to the community of individuals who are dedicated to maintaining and preserving the Excelsior-Henderson Super X motorcycles. To read about the history of Excelsior-Henderson, including the Hanlon's attempt to bring back this marque, click here. Your purchase of an Excelsior-Henderson Super X bike has put you in a special group of individuals. The Super X is a great heavy cruiser but it does have some special needs to keep it running factory fresh.

Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, a very active social and technical community of X riders, collectors and aficionados has evolved.  With the daily exchange of information among the community members, many preventive maintenance items that a new rider should perform or should confirm that have been performed on a previously owned bike are in the public domain.  If these preventive maintenance items have not been performed and a previously owned bike has logged miles, the buyer can expect some repair expenses.  Since there is no dealer network to speak of, the Super X Owners rely on one another for their technical information.  A listing of maintenance items that have been collected over the last several years can be found on this site, as well as several others listed on our links page.
