Fuel Injector Collar

Warranty Bulletin Number: 99-01, March 12, 1999

Serial Range: 201-208, 210-222, 224-228, 230, 234, 235, 236-244, 246, 250, 252, 262, 280-296, 300-323, 327-330, 340.

Symptom: Fuel injector may settle into intake manifold causing lower O-ring to unseat. This may cause engine to run lean, resulting in unstable idle condition and low speed surging.

Countermeasure: Install Delrin® plastic collar to the lower section of each fuel injector. The collar will snap into an existing space between a protrusion on the injector and the intake manifold.

Procedure: Inspect the injector o-ring position by removing the air cleaner and fully opening the throttle plates. If it is out of position, call your dealer. Next, working from the right hand side of the motorcycle, remove the front injector electrical plug. This will allow more clearance for collar installation to the rear injector. Install the rear collar first. Carefully pushing up on the wire clip will allow plug removal. Gently lift rear injector a small amount with a long screwdriver. This will allow easier access to the ring groove. Using a small amount of duct tape wrapped, adhesive side out on a long (flat-blade) screwdriver, attach the collar to the tape and snap onto the rear injector first. Reconnect the electrical connector to the front injector. Repeat this installation for the front injector. Check fuel rail screws for tightness.
