Oil Level Check

Service Bulletin Number: 99-01, March 18, 1999

Serial Range: All

Symptom: Difficult to measure oil level during initial set-up and after initial running.

Countermeasure: All Excelsior-Henderson Motorcycles are shipped with a full oil reservoir. No oil should be required for the first start up and running. Checking the oil level may or may not show as full on the dipstick. Start and run your new Super X until normal operating temperature is reached, generally 15-20 minutes of road running time.

With a normal temperature engine, hold the motorcycle up-right, run up the engine to 2500-3000 rpm for approximately 15-30 seconds. This will stabilize all oil levels in the Sump, Primary Cover, and Oil Reservoir. After this run up time, shut off the engine (while vertical), then place on side stand and check the oil level.

* The oil level will register on the dipstick but, may not indicate to the full line. Use this checking method to establish your normal operating oil level.
