Chasing Threads in the Rigid Front Fork Prior to Installing Accessories

Service Bulletin Number: s99-04, June 19, 1999

Serial Range: All

Symptom: Stripping fasteners when threaded into holes in the rigid fork while mounting accessories.

Correction: Chase threads in the rigid fork with a 5/16-18 tap to remove powder coat finish from accessory mounting holes. This will allow the mounting hardware to be installed without damaging the fasteners.

NOTE: When resistance is felt, remove the tap and clean residual material from both the tap and mounting hole.

NOTE: Whenever removing a fastener that uses pre-coat thread locker, clean threads before reinstalling fastener or installing a new fastener. Use thread locker as required.
