Super X Hesitates or Misfires While Riding
Super X is Hard To Start

Usually, this is a classic case of the positive battery cable being loose. Other symptoms include loss of battery power and/or the engine dies, especially when traveling over bumps. It's a simple fix, here's what to do:

1) Check the battery cable. Remove the battery cover to access the terminals. Check both the positive and negative terminals to make sure they are tight. Tighten if necessary. While down there, you might as well clean them and the battery posts.

2) Check the positive battery cable routing. See service bulletin #s99-06

3) Check the wiring harness under the tank. Excessive rubbing can cause cables to become exposed and short out. To remove the tank: first, remove the instrument cluster. Next, mark the three wiring harness disconnects BEFORE disconnecting them, so you will know which connector goes where when reconnecting them. Then place a rag at the front of the gas tank BEFORE removing it and disconnect the fuel line. The fuel line should have very little fuel in it as the electric fuel pump also acts as automatic petcock and shuts the fuel off automatically when receiving no power. Carefully take the fuel tank off and lay it upside-down on a moving blanket or other non-scratch surface. Carefully check all wiring to make sure it is in good condition.

4) Check your spark plugs. If the plug is really fouled, your bike may exhibit these problems: misfire, hesitation, hard to start.
