New Bike Won't Start

So you just uncrated your new Super X and it won't start? Don't panic. The checklist on this page should get your new ride up and running. Remember, if your bike was in a crate, it might have been that way since 1999! So, take a deep breath and start here:

1) Check the crankshaft sensor plug. Some crated bikes have had this bumped and it could be loose. If the bike still doesn't start, check the resistance of the sensor. The resistance should read between 535 - 575 Ohms at 70º F, somewhat lower when cooler and somewhat higher when warmer. If the resistance reading is way off, or if you have no resistance (open), you will need to replace the crankshaft sensor. The crankshaft sensor is located on the lower front left side of the engine casing below the breather.

(Thanks to Phil Ward for this info)

2) Check the fuel system. All bikes were run at the factory and therefore shipped with a small amount of fuel in the tank. Over time, this old fuel can varnish and gum up the fuel system. You'll need to check and/or clean the fuel pump and fuel injectors. The fuel pump is located on the left side of the bike under the tank.
