Cleaning and Caring for the
X-Man Air Filter Kit
How often you clean your
K&N or stock E-H filter depends on your riding conditions. If you ride
where there is dust, then you need to clean it often. It is OK to let the
air cleaner get a little dirty, the K&N filters even work better when
dirty.
If your stock air cleaner has
become saturated from oil puke, it needs to be replaced.
Here are the steps to servicing the K&N filter used on the X-Man air
filter kit.
1) Pre-clean the filter by knocking of the excess dirt or particles.
Do
not use compressed air, it can blow out the seams or make holes in the
cotton.
2) Spray on the cleaner. I recommend the K&N cleaner, but you
can use mild cleaners that will not harm the cotton. Don't use
gasoline, steam, strong detergents or parts cleaner. Just like
compressed air, don't use high pressure car washes because it can harm the
filter.
3) Rinse out the filter. Tap water is OK. Rinse from the
inside to the
outside. Once again, don't use high pressure. Make sure you rinse it
thoroughly.
4) Let is dry by itself. Don't use a hair dryer or heat. Heat
can make
the cotton shrink and the rubber dry out.
5) After the filter is completely dry, it needs to be oiled. I recommend
using only K&N spray oil. Spray each pleat with oil and let it
set for a few minutes. You can see places you missed because the
K&N oil is red and the missed places will be white.
Fact:
K&N is the 2nd largest cotton user is the USA. Johnson &
Johnson is the largest.
