X-Man's Hints and Fixes For June 16, 2002: General Super X Hints
By: Bobby Baldwin

There have repeated requests to put together a list of things we have learned about the Super X.  Almost every week we hear from owners who just bought a bike or who is just starting riding their bike.

So, here is the X-Man’s list of general hint’s and fixes.

  • Don’t lug the motor.  It is better for an X to keep the rpm’s up.

  • When you are stopped, shift into neutral. It keeps the clutch cooler.

  • Use full synthetic oil. Use at least 15W-50.

  • It is a good idea to loosen the bolts on the floorboards. It will allow them to move and increase ground clearance.

  • Tie down the bike with Softties and run them through the rigid front forks.  Strapping the bike to the handlebars can ruin the iso-mounts.

  • If your gas cap seal goes bad, there is a good one on the other cap.

  • The Super X has push/pull throttle cables.  If the push one breaks, switch it to pull and you can still ride the bike.

  • If you are adding on a backrest, be sure to remove the spacers.  But keep them in case you want to remove the backrest some day.

  • Before you put on any EH accessories, clean out the threads on the bike with a thread chaser.  If there are bolts provided in the accessory kit, use a wire wheel to remove the precoat.

  • Make sure you are aware of all safety issues, service updates and warranty bulletins

  • Get to know you bike inside and out.  You don’t have to be a mechanic to own a Super X, but it does take attention.
